I am having a problem finding the right language tool
what I have found so far has been confusing (Sqeak, etc), or a free trial to a more expensive product that I cannot afford (Delphi, etc). So I am looking for alternatives to those already mentioned.

Let me offer you a loose translation of your original question: "Where can I find free stuff which I don't have to work to understand so that I can charge other people money? And by the way, where is the list of easy things to charge them for?"
Even if I had an answer to that, the way that you asked it would put me off.
But I don't have an answer to that. Any Linux tool will involve learning something new, and based on past experience, you will refuse to do that. Plus even if you did learn it, the things that Linux needs that aren't there need some actual elbow grease and often multiple cooperating skillsets to provide (else they would be done). And you will have to do some real work to come up with something that someone else won't just give away for free because they found it fun to produce. (Funny how open source folks are about doing things like that.)
The answer is that if you expect to just get a free development environment that you are already productive in, putter around for a bit, and then not have to work, you are setting yourself up for failure. Again.

All I want
is something I could work with that given my situation would be easy enough to do something with. My requrements are:
#1 That it fits my budget, for now my budget is $0 as I am not earning an income and may lose the house if I buy too much stuff.
#2 That it is easy enough to use. I want something that is as easy to use as Visual BASIC is. That means setup wizards, online tutorials, and something that is going to help me learn the language without having to read a dozen books or so.
#3 I also need something that I can eventually make a program off of that can be sold later. I'll worry about marketing later.
I want to produce something so I can feel better about myself, so I can feel like I can still write programs. It may be possible that I can no longer write programs given my current mental state, but I got to keep on trying.

Given your constraints
There are really only two choices: Kylix is, to the best of my knowledge, free for non-commercial use. The Delphi interface is gooder than the vaunted VB interface.
The more pertinent question, though, is why don't you just Visual Basic to write applications? Lot's of useful things can be accomplished in VB. Since you already know it and love it, i.e. why do you wish to transition to a different language/environment. Or more to the point, what specifically is your problem with using VB?

His problem is simple
He wants to sell programs that run under Linux.
VB doesn't run under Linux.
Perhaps he is a candidate for mono?

One thing about UNIX - every good and bad idea has assumed a permanent form - so there is an vast open world of things to explore.
If he wants what you state - then KDE/Qt/C++ with slots/Parts should provide enough entertainment, particularly if paralleled with learning VC++/MFC, and some possibility of being employed.

OK - this is the thing - Norman Look HERE.
Remember Hypercard? This is Hypercard on steroids and its cross platform.
Simple programming language - visual design - run it on Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, whatever. There's a free starter version - somewhat limited - but it will cost money to get runtimes for various platforms.

I think that it's extraordinarily important that we in computer science keep fun in computing. When it started out, it was an awful lot of fun. Of course, the paying customer got shafted every now and then, and after a while we began to take their complaints seriously. We began to feel as if we really were responsible for the successful, error-free perfect use of these machines. I don't think we are. I think we're responsible for stretching them, setting them off in new directions, and keeping fun in the house. I hope the field of computer science never loses its sense of fun. That's exactly the same as Kylix / Delphi
That, too, is free for Linux (for GPLed apps) and costs a little (US$100 Personal, US$250 Proffesional) on Windows... And Norm is *such* a fucking cheapskate whiner that he can't even *consider* that; he wants it ALL for FREE, you see.

But there are free things out there
it is just really hard to find them, which is why I've asked. See how I've found things like Revolution, Squeak, and others. I might just invest $100 in Delphi Personal after I've saved up some money, but right now I do not have the money to buy it. I won't have any until June, thanks to the five month waiting list for disability. Unless you'd rather I cheat Borland and visit Astalavista.com and search for a Delphi Trial Crack patch? Thought not, I'd rather pay for my software than pirate it.
I won't stave to death, if I have to I'll eat rice and eggs or rice and salt, to stay alive. I might just shed some pounds while I am at it. So far I have skipped a few meals every week or so. Or I just eat light, like one Yogurt, or a PBJ sandwhich, or a 59 cent can of soup or Spaghetti Rings, instead of a full meal. I even learned how to make a Poor Man's Pizza/Burrito by using flour tourtias, cheese, and lunchmeat and a Microwave. Just spread the cheese and lunch meat on the tourtia, and then heat for 2 minutes, and then eat as a Pizza or roll it over as a burrito. I can get all of this stuff at the "Stock Up Stores" like Aldi's or Save-A-Lot that sell food really cheap. I went from 280 pounds down to 258 now. I still can lose about 100 pounds before I get healthy again. Sometimes I splurge and heat up a frozen pizza. :)

It may be best if I wait
until my head clears up and I get used to the new medicine.
VB is nice, but yes I do eventually want to write Linux apps. Delphi/Kylix is also an option but I seem to have a hard time downloading the demo CD from Borland. Either their servers are slow, or my DSL ISP is crap. I can download the Squeak and VisualWorks Smalltalk files just fine, just not the Kylix or Delphi trials. I'll try again later on tonight for the Delphi trial using wget and see if that makes a difference.
I suppose I could use VB for now, but I cannot even think clear enough to write VB code. Sad but true.
I suppose I could write something in VB first, and then learn Smalltalk, or Delphi/Kylix and convert it later. Would that be ok?
