I've been involved with them and some of their employees since the 70's. They've ALWAYS been like that. They lay off a lot of their floor staff to cut expenses, then cry on the nursing schools saying they need lots nurses quick, and when lots nurses show up there is a glut and they cut hourly rates and hours because nurses are cheap.
I worked there for about 5 years in the 70's and quit to get a bio med engineering degree. Went back and worked on the research side with the LVAD guys (permanent part time) and for 3 quarters heard that NEXT quarter they'd have the funds to make me full time. I wired up quadriplegics for direct neural stimulation for my graduation project, so I figured I could wire up industrial robots just as well. I haven't been back to the medical dodge since.
Still, I keep in touch with some people from the old days and the bullshit hasn't changed. Toby the C (who was the junior heart staffer when I was in the OR) is now the CEO. He still treats people like shit; hasn't changed a bit.
CC and University Hospitals have a monopoly on major medicine in Cleveland and counties around it. They are just a BIG money machine. They have relatively little to do with medicine any more.
