Alas, you're only correct in the US
Now, absurdities in a language confuse non-native speakers but English is such a mess, it confuses the crap out of foreigners already. The trouble is, there are two versions of English that appear to be the same language but aren't. Your language confuses foreigners like Peter and I. Stop it.

What else counts? We don't at all mind confusing uppity foreigners.
Particularly those who accuse us of abusing "their" language.
Linguists say the closest language to ours is not that of England, but of Australia. I hold that is because both derive from the same criminal ancestry. Americans got out before the police came, Australians after.
