Here's a massively blunt instrument of a number: total firearms-related deaths per year, per 100,000 population. I wanted to compare the US with a country of similar developmental status, that has very strict gun laws, the UK.
US: 10.2
UK: 0.25
(most shooty country in the world: El Salvador, rate 50.36)
(least shooty country in the world: Chile, rate 0.06)

To contrast: intentional homicide rate. Again, per 100,000 population:
US: 4.8
UK: 1.2
(Most murdery country in the world: Honduras, rate 91.0)
(least murdery country in the world: Monaco, rate 0.0)

And finally, suicide rate per 100,000 population (this is averaged male/female, as males tend to be much more suicidey than females, and broken-out figures are not available for both US and UK on Wikipedia)
