Re: Why - because it will take longer?
The aeffects will probably be bad. Not necessarily - consider the [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Warm_Period|example] of the Vikings living in Greenland. They will, however, be very different. Without killing off 3/4 the human race AND 'going green', I don't think theres much we can do about it at this point though. We MUST get off this rock! Fusion, baby. It's all about the fusion. The money the UK's about to tip into Trident, for example, would be better spent on fusion power.

Won't help. Well. Won't help ENOUGH.
Cow farts, aerosols, refrigerants...
There are other reasons to establish a permanent presence elsewhere, too.

Oh, I don't doubt it.
However, it's not the answer, because we simply can't put enough people in space to make the difference.

What, ever?
If man was meant to fly, etc.
But as I pointed out before - genetic viability in a small population is not a problem - as eggs and sperm don't take up much room.

Eggs & Sperm = Homo Sapiens...
...it doesn't equal our civilisation.
Not necessarily a dealbreaker, but something perhaps to think about.

Oh, I agree...
I was thinking of one Mom producing multiple, genetically diverse children as a way of reducing the number of living bodies that must be sent to produce a viable colony...
