why do you think gore's choice would be any different?
In post 1992 Clinton was shaking down corps right and left. Microsoft had been politically quiet with 0 dollars spent. The clintons specifically targetted MS because of BG's political Naivete in thinking that politics doesnt matter to business. After BG got the shock that there is bigger sharks than him he and $MS contributed extremely heavily and in a bi-partisan manner. With the coin they have thrown out past the $200 million mark in both directions it doesnt matter who won the election MS won the settlement. thanx, bill

Shit, bill, that's easy
Because Gore is NOT the fucking moron that Bush is. Gore would have nominated a real attorney to the post of Attorney General (notice the first word in the title?), not some has-been smackass whose major claim to fame is being beaten by a dead man in a Senatorial election (one that the SC couldn't fuck up). You see, Gore actually understands hi-tech, and also understands antitrust. Bush barely understands which camera is live when he's reading from the teleprompter.
(Actually, that's not entirely fair...Bush understands antitrust, too. He understands that the more antitrust enforcement there is, the lower his campaign contribution warchest would be.)

Read it...doesn't matter
The question was, would Gore have done differently? My answer: Yes, he would have. He would have not chosen an AG as vapid and one dimensional as Ashhole, and he and his real AG would have continued the enforcement of antitrust laws as was the case under Clinton. No capitulation.
What part of that don't you understand?

microsoft was targeted because they wouldnt make payoffs
now they have made them, the democrats would have also let them off. It doesnt matter because MS has paid the extortion fees demanded. Besides ya think he would have appointed whom? Anther Brer Reno? An AG with the vision of a professional wrestling referee. thanx, bill

Possible.
On the other hand, you have to realize that when MS crushes a competitor, JOBS are lost in that state.
Washington state is doing extremely well.
Too bad about those other states.

I wouldn't call it extremely well...
Boeing is going under, and rumbling noises about moving ALL the plants out of the Seattle area are being made.
Eastern Washington is in the shits. Although that's nothing new.
90% of the .commies in the region are now .gonnies.
Unemployment is WAY up, and our sales tax-based government is freaking out about how to pay all the claims without breaking the bank.
Oh, and some moron named Tim Eyeman keeps finding new, interesting, and usually unconstitutional and discriminatory ways to make the tax collectors scream for mercy, while gutting essential services through the citizen initiative process, generally with the help of the aformentioned eastern Washington.
Yup, things are lookin' REAL good over here right now.

Should have qualified that a bit.
Washington state is looking a lot better than the other states.
:)
That's the problem with a sales tax. It's regressive. The MS millionaires aren't doing their share of in-state purchases.
I think we should dump the sales tax and go with a state income tax.
But that's a subject for another thread.
