Several of them were taken after dark, some with no flash. And the ones that did have flash, the cheezy flash on the camera only reaches about 6-8 feet. As for focus, the things takes forever to focus, so it's really not good for action shots, like the one of Bill climbing out of the pool. (One of the things I hate about auto-focus. It decides when it's focussed, and it decides when/if to snap the picture.) I took some of those through PhotoShop. The image detail just wasn't there to bring up. I'm not a graphics pro, but I used to play one in the Marines, so I do know my way around brightness and gamma. Any more detail than what's there and you'd have to have the magic software they use in movies to pull a license plate out of five pixels. Okay, the ones where the guys were under the umbrella and the pool was behind them I could have selected the foreground, feathered the edge, and brightened that without washing out the background. But they're just some candids. Like I said when I put up the link, if anyone wahts to prettify them better I can send you the originals. === Implicitly condoning stupidity since 2001.

But I also used the default compression setting on the software that came with the camera the first time I did it. "Editor" there was more what the civilian world would call, "copy editor, graphics, design, layout, writer management, every-damn-thing-except-final-editorial-control guy". So yeah, I did digital photo processing for a living for a couple years. But before that, I did real real photography as photo editor for my high school yearbook. Yeah, high school, but I could put a head on a different body in the darkroom with real negatives and real photo paper and you couldn't see the edges. Damn that took some practice.
