Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Time to be deadly serious - I ACCUSE Marlowe & Cybermace5 of

being paid propaganda agents of the government. I believe we have enough information & intelligence here to see these people for who they are. Marlowe has given us enough direct clues in his own words & claims to establish this as a reasonable deduction.

Some people may not care about if this is true or not but speaking for myself I damned well do and intend doing something about it.

I challenge Marlowe & Cybermace5 to prove (and that can be to the administrators of IWETHEY) that they are not being either ...

- paid directly or indirectly to mount a pro govt propaganda campaign here
- are directly or indirectly employed by a defence agency and have been directed to conduct propaganda campaign's in defence of government activities in pursuit of the war on terror or the war on Iraq

Some may ask why I am bothered by who they might be (assuming they are as I am claiming), for me, I want to know who is here to participate as a legitimate community member versus who is here under cover to disrupt or attempt to sow disinformation or to act as pure conduits for government propaganda.

Such tactics can be constured as 'black' (sinister). I say this based on the fact that Marlowe & Cybermace5 repeatedly refuse to identify themselves or establish credentials that would fairly allow other members to accept and understand why they insist on anonimity in the face continued controversy about who they really are and their motives.

My case is that we don't live in NAZI germany nor should we want to, but IMHO, what these people appear to be doing here is leading in that direction and I for one deeply resent that possibility.

I am interested in other peoples opinions but be prepared for a kick in the head if those opinions aren't well argued & of substatnce. For example that shit post by the person who doesn't give a flying fuck merely tells me he would most likely have been a 'good citizen' had he lived in SS land.

I also have some ideas on how to deal with these people and one is to periodically post in the most affected forums, a statement of belief about these people & what I (some of us) believe they are up to - whislt this may not be a perfect way to deal with them, it seems to be to be a lot more honest and has a lot more integrity than what I am claiming they are up to.

Let the comments and flames begin ...

Sincerely Doug Marker

New Deadly serious my ass
The grinning idiot opines that a pair (yes, there are obviously two of them) of lightweights are paid propoganda agents leading the regulars down the primrose path to Naziism or whatever.

If the official user count is around 400, then the number of real users is probably about half that. Of those, the vocal majority are set in their ways such that no amount of propoganda will have any effect. It's a stupid idea on the face of it. Suggesting that a decent honorable human being exists between the Canadian and Mexican borders is approaching a troll around here these days. This place is, frankly, a waste of agents.

I also find it somewhat ironic that you want to shut up those who don't agree with the groupmind by denouncing *THEM* as Nazis. Interesting.... but stupid.

I seem to also have missed your credentials that allow you to demand others to show their papers. Are you now with one of the new homeland security groups or something?

Get help. You're losing it.

New uh, Doug...this is a dead end
marlowe would like nothing better than for us to believe him a Junior G-Man in psy-ops, and the other one is, in my opinion, merely naive. American culture can be, particularly for those consumers who have neither read ambitiously nor traveled much outside these shores, as stultifyingly insular in its way as that of the old USSR. cybermace hears Our Leader proclaim, in last week's embarassing press conference with Tony Blair, that this mugging has broad international support, with a coalition "bigger in numerical terms than the one we had in 1991," neglecting to mention that in 1991 we had the European A-list solidly behind the undertaking, whereas this time we've paid hefty bribes to secure the names of Lower Slobbovia and West Bumfuck for our roster--he hears this, and doesn't fill in the negative spaces. If you point out to him that by overwhelming margins the populations of our notional allies oppose the invasion, he will reply that the various heads of state are displaying leadership by refusing to be swayed by popular passions. If this is "leadership" then Saddam Hussein, whom we are told is hated and feared by 95% of his people, has it in spades, nicht?

But this goes off-topic. Occam's Razor, Doug, Occam's Razor. The US government doesn't need to employ these two to churn the forum here--each, for his own reasons, is a volunteer, and really, you'll only make yourself look silly (granting that this is the flame forum, where choleric silliness is far from being in short supply) if you pursue it. Take my advice and walk away from this hobbyhorse.

cordially,

New Finally, his first name is revealed!
The mysterious "R." (Not Randolph, not Rutherford, nor even Rapunzel) Careaga gives Doug M. some good advice... A post like many others, in most respects -- except, *this* time, the omniscient LRPD tells us what that "R" stands for.

Hi, Rutabaga Careaga!

Actually, I don't use my first name at all, except on sundry legal and financial documents. For other purposes I've always gone by my four-letter middle name.

Basque. "care" = lime, as in limestone; "aga" = "place of," in practice often a fortified hilltop. So, "lime hill."

New In my defence ...
I believe I was not in essence, claiming any thing different about them than what happened with Microsoft during the 'BARKTO' affair of which I was a participant.

BARKTO and others, it was latter admited, were executives of MS who adopted aliases organised by MS public relations man Rick Segal, & claimed to be customers of competing vendors. Their goal was to go into discussion groups to attack these competitors.

But, as already said. The horse is now dead.

Lets get back to normal <grin>

Later info that emerged via Will Zachmann that other execs including Ballmer & Gates had admitted to doing similar.

New You were in on the Barkto scam?
Wow. You must know Irv Spalten, Bob St. John, Scott Garfinkle perhaps?

How 'bout Brad Wardell? Heh... you HAVE to know Bob Germer;)

I also have had passing communications with David Barnes, and a few others, though Barkto was all well before my time (I started getting involved in the online warp community '95-'96).

If you're curious, Bob St. John's now one of the owners of Serenity Systems, who are publishing that OEM version of OS/2 I keep yapping about. Irv retired last year, and is now being curmudgeonly on the OS/2 newsgroups with the FUD4 (if you don't know, go google on coo.advocacy or .misc, and look for David D. Huff, Tim Martin, David T. Johnson, RJ Friedman, or one of many sock puppets of the above).

You might even know Claude; he was out of IBM Montreal. Good guy.

New Not in on the scam

I was in product support in IBM A/P & OS/2 Warp was one of our babies, I had been in contact with & supporting Dave Whittle & Dave Barnes (to a much lesser extent).

I had been attempting to back them up in Canopus, under the propaganda & abuse tirade they were under at the time.

Dave Whittle either did or was close to an emotional breakdown. I know his manager told him to go take a month or more leave at the tail end of the affair.

Microsoft also nailed William Zachmann later, had him fired as technical editor from one of the larger PC magazines - that was lousey because he was always super careful at how he handled MS & what he said about them, but for that job, it wan't enough.

Cheers

Doug
(I was also going to be the country product manager for Workplace OS but as well know Lou G pulled the plug.)

New Sorry, when I say "in on" I was saying
"you were there". I heard it was really nasty.

It's still going on, though at this point I think it's more of a skunkworks than actual policy like it was for Barkto.

If you're interested, you should talk to Mark at Orion Solutions (Australian distributor); I'm sure you could talk him into spinning you an assessment version of eComStation. We're very close to release of 1.1, and I think you'll find the work we've done to be pretty nice.

New Nasty <g> It was the most vicious thing I ever experienced

outside of physical combat.

It always gets ugly when people who have hidden agendas, false ids and apparently no scruples about how & what they want to achieve, invade ordinary people going about their normal participation in places like canopus was.

Barkto left me with a very 'bent' attitude to Microsoft and to their tactics. It didn't help that they kept refining the practices & expanding their targets. (Java & that infamous Gates remark 'cut off their air supply', then how they sucessfully out manouvered a disctrict court judge (Jackson) over Win98 integration).

Cheers

Doug

Actually, if you bothered to look back through my posts, you'll see that I initially found this site when I noticed a few hits in my site logs. Tablizer had posted a link.

There ya go, the shroud of mystery is on your own eyes, and not around me.

And I don't know who marlowe is, nor do I care. All he does is post links from freerepublic or Drudge, and never gets into any type of debate. Never comes to back up what people who share some of his views say. That's one of your strengths...since you've subscribed to the liberal groupthink, it's easy for you be to unified.

I have been extremely busy working with a client on a large embedded systems/digital design/analog acquistion project, so haven't had time to hang out recently....
