You did understand that I meant

1) Browse to this site
2) Instead of clicking "Login" link, just click on a forum and *then* put up the login screen.

This is a simple check "is user logged in?" I don't mean persistent logins, because you explained before that it was not something you wanted to do.

New Yes, I did understand.
To do what you want properly I need to add cookies to track login names.

Your method would force people to register merely to browse the forums, which I do not wish to do.
