That is, citizens who firmly expect a solid separation of church and state* coming up against the fact that said state was originally founded largely by men of a particular religious bent. It is a little bit like Australia's Republic issue: there is a shitload of "royal" things to alter if we change. I suspect the US would have a similar problem if the knife of church/state separation is plunged too deeply. Who knows: the US as we know it might even have to cease to completely achieve it**!
