Many of my clients have a half dozen external modems on their systems, some for call-in, some for call-out and some for fax out. The two brands used are US Robotics and Multi Tech. I strongly prefer the Multi Tech, they're a lot smaller and they connect with everything - except sometimes US Robotics. One of my clients recently had to change his USR fax-out modem to Multi Tech because he was getting too many fax failures. [link\|http://www.aaxnet.com\|AAx]

Used both for internet and faxing before the era of the cable modem, and still use one or the other for faxing. And have never had a connection problem. (Configuration problems? Occasionally, but never a connection problem.) Just lucky, I guess. This then pushed the end users to get USR equipment. Then when the competition came around, they introduced what they claimed was compatible equipment, along with their own extensions. But everyone was supposed to be USR compatible 1st.
