Welcome to IWETHEY!

New He admits it's his problem
The ISP guy does, but John thinks we can solve it by going out this weekend and getting me a different modem. The ISP guy is a small local service, and I guess he can't afford to replace his system equipment.

Thanks though.

Brenda

New Hang on...
He's admitted it's his problem - but you're acting like it's yours? IDGI.

If I read your original post, your ISP changed it's number and it's equipment. If that's so, they owe you because they're providing a faulty service! At the very least, he should be waiving your fees (or loaning you a Known Good Modem) until they fix their modem rack.

New Not acting like it's our problem
Just solving it easier on our end. I've been pretty down, and John wants me to be happier, and I was just starting to be happier when this hit, and now everything is harder and longer to load so I got down again. So John would rather buy me another modem than hassle with the ISP guy.

At least it would be a quicker fix than waiting for them to upgrade sometime.

New There is no concept of 56KB dialup modems on the ISP side
They have banks of modem boards at the local POP.
They then get translated to either ISDN or leased line.
If the ISP does not have a relationship with whoever serves your local POP, then they can't get better than 33KB.
