But it really does look like what I've been saying I want: A full-size wagon, but a little taller. No pretensions to off-road capability. Room for six. And I've already looked at the Magnum. I'd still opt for the minivan. Greater versatility. A good friend will come and bail you out of jail ... but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"

There were some articles linked here for a different subject a while back that were slagging on CVTs. For the rest of it, the Freestar sounds like a cut-down minivan - less people room, no sliding doors (invaluable, especially with kids, especially especially as they get older and start opening doors into cars parked next to you...). Man, is the dashboard fugly, too. Looking at the cargo stats, though, it seems to have the same cargo room as a Windstar with the seats out. That surprises me. CVT's pretty old technology, it's just been refined over the years. One could get a Freestyle Hybrid, in principle. But I agree with the thrust of your comments. The best peoplemover for groups of 6 -7 is a minivan. Cheers, Scott.
