New Gimp doesn't look anything like that on Linux
Gimp's dialog looks more like the Windows one. This is Gimp 2.0.6, however.

New Only from the standpoint of the extra panel
All of the Linux and Windows dialogs have this in common: as you navigate, the contents of the panel(s) changes. On Panther, you get new panels.

The bit that struck me with the Evolution dialog was the left panel: drives on the top, user-defined locations on the bottom.
