Problem with Debian
even with the Progeny installer is that i386 HW detection is nowhere near as good as Knoppix (or Kanotix, or the umpty-bazillion Knoppix-type livecds)
This means that far fewer will actually install Debian proper - and those that try to install on the HD from the livecds will have major trouble upgrading, and will get a negative view of Linux in general.
