Addendum
Garrison Keillor, in his inimitable way, on this week's program (NPR):
Has a skit (in "Lake Wobegon", that is) re a teacher who thought he just couldn't require everyone to recite the Pledge of Allegiance .. school board replies, ~"well.. not Everyone Has to.. just - the pledge must be recited: one is enough". .. Headline: "School board backs down on Pledge of Allegiance" .. etc. with wry comments only he can generate. He's old enough to rememebr Joe McC.
But then, he can also drop in a few Biblical quotes n'such, just so's it's not clear what exactly his message might mean on whatever level. Real storytellers are becoming rarer.
It isn't 1950. Yet.
