Update2 - Stage 4
Surgery went smooth. Removed a baseball sized cancerous tumor from my mom's colon. Then the surgeon went exploring...
Soft spots on the liver, assumed to be cancerous. Large mass behind/underneath the uterous (sp). Assumed cancerous. Biopsy taken and sent off. Surgeon stated that she has stage 4 cancer.
Chemo is out. Doesn't work on 81 y/o patients. Mom wouldn't want it anyhow. There are oral meds. Do nothing 1-5 years maybe longer. Take meds 1-5 years maybe longer. It will be a quality of life issue. My mom has stated that she has lived a good life, a long life, and is ready to go. She doesn't want to die, but is ready. "all my children are grown and self-sufficient." She's done her job...
She is still post-op, so the surgeon has not told her about the other cancers. When she asked me if he had gotten it all, I answered that he had gotten the entire mass from the colon. I want her to be aware when she finds out about the rest...
Sigh
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. (Herm Albright)

You have my prayers and sympathies!
I had no idea elderly people couldn't have chemo.
I'll pray that she has a good quality of life for as long as she can and that her passing will be peaceable.
I'll also pray for you and your family while they cope with this ordeal.

I think, in a way, prayers *were* answered.

My heart goes out to you, Joe. Keep your spirits up and celebrate the days you have left. Be sure to share some stories about your mom. She sounds like a wonderful woman.
