Wife's Mother, may she Rest in Peace. (Updated details)
Final stages of death progressed from ~5:30PM Sunday.
She died ~4:22PM Today.
Wife is hysterical. But happy the suffering is done.
Additional info:
Wife's Mom has been suffering from Alzheimer's, for the past seven years it had taken its toll on her and us. Things got really bad when she started not being able to walk with out stumbling. About two years six months ago, she fell off the front porch and broke her right femur about 3 inches from the hip end. This went hugely bad as she kept discovering every 20-30 seconds her hip hurt. They finally had to put her in traction. Once they repaired the bone, she became wheelchair bound from then on.
She was admitted and she was well taken care of, she healed but became unable to help the staff take care of herself. Until about 6 weeks ago, she was on a Same Stuff, Different Day schedule. Then at that point, doctors decided Hospice care was needed... no signals measurable with any chart or tests, just observations.
Hospice care came just in time, as she started to feel pain in her whole body she wouldn't sleep due to the pain. They gave her methadone, and started morphine last week.
On Sunday, she stopped responding normally. Pupils were pinpoints, she only breathed through her mouth loudly, wouldn't respond with any movement, but she would grunt and groan and tear when people came and went. She could hear right up to nearly the end. Since Sunday her heart rate was 120+ BPM, Blood Pressure was 95/40.
She began to gurgle on her own fluids early Monday morning (5AM or so) and be the "Death Gurgle" sounds. Today about 3:45PM her heart rate went to about 180 BPM and the blood pressure was 65/35. She also had apnea while breathing.
I am sorry if you didn't want to know about the details... just that a couple of you asked privately about them. So, I asked the wife and she agreed it was fine. Nobody needs to go into this blind.
This whole episode with my MIL, reminds me of my Dad's death... the gurgle and the apnea and the shutdown of the body... high heart rate, low blood pressure... etc.
Thanks for the considerations.

Condolences to you and your family.
I know it's been a long struggle. You and your wife were very good people to be involved in her care for so long. I hope the grieving period is short, but thorough. Best wishes to everyone.
Hang in there.
Cheers, Scott.

One more post.
It is heartbreaking to lose a loved one, especially when they've become not the person you knew. My grandfather was like that; Alzheimers over a few years and eventually pneumonia took him in hospital some years ago. It's hard to even remember it.
