C'mon Bill. It's the Bush admin. They've shown themselves to be dirty over and over again. This is not inconsequential no matter how loudly you say it is.
My personal opinion is that eventually we will find that this all started as a way to get rid of Carol Lam before she got too deep in the Cunningham matter, exposing too many big wheels and getting convictions in the halls of power. Being the inept bunch they are, they thought firing a few of them (and just incidentally giving out a few political favors) was an easy cover.
