New Where did you hang out while z was closed for renovations?
I spent some time at the [link|http://joelonsoftware|Joel on Softare] forums. Very different audience, but interesting. Much narrower focus on software and its creation. Plus a bit about IT management, design, blogging, from which I found a bunch of blogs I've been reading: Paul Graham, Paul Glen, Christopher Hawkins, BigPictureSmallOffice.com, Information Technology Dark Side, Don Norman, Dave Winer, Copyblogger, Scott Berkun, Johanna Rothman.

New Mostly offline
I spent the last couple of months helping my mom out, she's having medical problems and I've been helping by communicating with doctors, finding out about medications, etc. Most of the time I was online I was researching information for her or about her. I had been involved to the point of trying to make sure she was doing the things the drs told her, but I gave that part of the job up after a conversation with my brother and sister and have stepped back from active watch to a more passive watch. But I'm still helping her a lot, and can help anytime she asks, I just don't have to try and convince her to do this or that, or feel responsible or guilty if she doesn't. I just tell someone else (relatives who have agreed to help).

She had an MRI and was diagnosed with Small Blood Vessel Disease of the brain (hardening of the arteries), and Osteoporosis/Osteoarthritis of the neck head and jaw. So she's been suffering from pretty bad headaches for months, and we finally convinced her to get to a neurologist whom she saw last Friday. She had a bunch more tests done today and will be starting pain management next week.

It's a relief to have time to hop in here and post, to be honest. I was overwhelmed for awhile there. Prayers are definitely welcome, as we are still not over all the hurdles yet. But the worst things have been ruled out like dementia, Alzheimers, and Parkinson's and they say her current condition is treatable.

I sure missed you guys/gals though, this place is a great escape!

Glad you're all back!

Brenda

New Cancun.
Well, for a week. I love my folks.

Works sucks badly though. Maybe karma, after my trip to paradise?

I actually took pictures (I'm not a photo kinda guy, forgive the quality)

I DID miss this place, though.

New Hey!
That's the Royal Caribbean, if I'm not mistaken! I've stayed there a few times in the past. I happen to know someone who has a timeshare there as well. Nice place, what with every single room with a view of the ocean, and all...

(Edit below)

[link|http://cancun.netphenomena.net/Chichen-Itza/p1240025.jpg|http://cancun.netphe...Itza/p1240025.jpg] -- Are you kidding me? They've blocked off the steps of the pyramid there so you can't go up it anymore? Damn! Good thing I went up the one time I've been there previously. Too damn bad my kids won't be able to go up there. It's amazing.

The ones named "Sands*" are pictures of that hotel/timeshare groups' latest (as of 2002) vacationing spot, the Royal Sands. I think that one was completed in 2001, but don't quote me on that.

Oh, and those pictures were all taken with [link|http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/img/climate/research/hurricanes/isidore_pg.jpg|Hurricane Isidore] parked right on top of the Yucatán Peninsula. You can see where the eye of the storm is. Looking to the right of that, you'll see an island off the east coast of the peninsula. That's Cozumel. Cancun is directly north of Cozumel, at the little jaggy tip that is the easternmost part of the mainland. It's gorgemous even during a hurricane.

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?
