That answer is available
in Gen. MacArthur's concluding remarks at [link|http://www.keytlaw.com/Greatwords/macarthur.htm| West Point] (after HST fired the primadonna.) [...]
Today marks my final roll call with you. But I want you to know that when I cross the river, my last conscious thoughts will be of the Core, and the Core, and the Core. Thenk you thenk you - I'll be here throughout the massacree of the Narcissist-in-Chief and henchmen. When they slog by in irons, the gold bullion chained to a drag-chain at each ankle.. enroute to Guantanamo, I shall attempt to be compassionate; shall offer a drink from Gunga Din's smelly oilskin.. {it was crawlin and it stank ... but of all the drinks I drank..) It's the least I can do. :-)

You missed a funny.
McArthur's words were actually [link|http://www.alsdfrecruitingcommand.com/General-McArthur-s-Farewell-Speech|"the corps, and the corps, and the corps"]. On the other hand, a "core dump", i.e. a copy of memory contents, often taken when you have a memory segmentation fault, goes back to the days when computer memories were made with ferrite cores.
HTH, you failed imperialist! :)

I think you missed Ashton's funny.
He used [link|http://www.pdp8.net/pdp8em/core.shtml|PDP-8]s IIRC.
:-)

Nah! I did mention the core memory.
And, panic is most often a result of a segfault.
But, the PDP-8 did indeed not a have virtual memory feature and so could not have had a segmentation fault.
