Remember, it was strongly debated in the time of the American Revolution whether the official language of this land should be English or German. Since no settlement could be reached no offical language was appointed. Dollar, Thaler, tolar, daalder, daler - it's all the same. We are basically a country of "Anglo-Saxons" (Germans) speaking a Germanic language and incorporating many German traditions (like Christmas trees) - plus plenty of Scandinoovians (Germanic) and various Baltic peoples and mixed Slavs who mingled with Germans for thousands of years as the borders changed (generally monthly, or even weekly at times). If the English were not so heavily Germanic (Anglo-Saxon) would they not have fallen overnight like the French? Are we capable of concentration camps and mass extermination? You betchya! They attacked Great Britian and we did nothing. Japan attacked us and we declared war on Japan! (Not Germany) Only then, did Germany declare war on us and then we responded.
