New OH MY
What a horrible violation of my privacy. Who knows what they will do with that? Damned fascist retailer.

(is the sign >really< necessary?)

New In fact, they are not
more likely to sell or share the data.

They are tremendously careful with it. Their reputation as the most trusted retailer is HIGHLY valued by management. To the point that they have been looking into strategies to self-destruct the data center where the CC data is stored if physically violated. CC data is kept on a completely separate set of stuff from customer data and the only way to access it manually is to go to a specially secured terminal room.

New Plus, internet retailers can't take our life or liberty...
New No, but
if the data gets out, someone else could take your identify and money.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. (Herm Albright)
New True. Misuse of private info is bad, no matter who does it.
New Wal-Mart is working on that one.

New Perhaps not big river
but the lot of other retailers. Also , the cases of data theft from non-government sources are more prevalent...though the stolen laptop gambit has stung at least teh VA that I am aware of.

Point being, your data is statistically more are risk in the private sector.

Of course, that doesn't trump the paranoia factor of having 'big brother' looking over your shoulder.

New Oh sure
there's plenty of others that don't think long term and will do anything for a quick buck.
