Got rear ended today
Was out running a few errands during lunch. Stopped at a red light. BAM!! The idiot talking on his cell phone behind me plowed right into me. He said he thought I had gone already. Through a red light? I dont think so. I'm fine. Car is not. It's the hassle factor that is annoying me most right now. As if I dont have enough to do already, now I have to deal with this. Grrr.

How much damage? Still drivable?
If you incurred a lot of damage, give it a couple days before you sign off that you are physically fine. Things can pop up later. You probably knew that...

Re: How much damage? Still drivable?
Back end is all smashed, but drivable enough to get it home and do today's car pooling. I'll take it to the collision shop tomorrow for an estimate.
I hit my chin on the steering wheel pretty hard, but otherwise I'm okay.

Fingers crossed. :-)
I hope the repairs to your vehicle aren't too much of a hassle.

Bills go to his/her insurance company. You want to make sure that everything is ok. Once you say there are no injuries, it'll be very difficult to "change your mind".
btw, glad you're ok.

If you hit your chin from being rear ended
you probably reacted to being snapped back. You might watch for back or neck pains in the next couple days. When I overdo it and pull something in the gym, it usually shows up on the second day after. On the other paw, I may be atypical. Good luck...

Call HIS insurance company ASAP
Otherwise, YOUR insurance rates will be affected (more than they probably will be just because you dared to have a claim at all).

plan to see a doctor
Last accident I was in a duelie pickup swerved to miss a car and hit my del Sol on the driver side door(I was stopped at a T intersection, he was on the main road which didn't have to stop.) My car spun 180 and slid about 30 feet off the road. The accident occurred around 7:30 am. I felt fine all morning. By mid afternoon I couldn't open a door without major effort and a lot of pain.

So far so good.. {whew}
And.. what they all said.
Also, while the advice is flowing - MDs rarely know much about the physics of orthopedics, they just recall the memorized Latin. When the bone is sticking out.. they do better.
So if you should wake-up feeling something like ~ Spice's version - Well, good luck finding a local spin-off of the neuro-ortho persuasion (there are variants on old-time 'chiropractors' out there; a Good practitioner can have you do a few exercises, diagnose and .. actually help.)
This from experience and a middling amount of credible hearsay of some before/afters. Neck-snaps are the Pits.. hope you evade that, entirely. The Art is in finding one via a credible reference you know, I wot.

I took it in for an estimate today
They can start working on it Monday. They'll provide me with a loaner. And I'm feeling fine today, except for a bruised chin. So it could've been a lot worse. Just a minor hassle at this point.

Re: Got rear ended today
Driving with cell phones is against the law, isn't it? In most states anyway. That means his insurance pays for the damage to you and your car.

Which is kind of a bummer because the loaner they gave me is a Mazda 6 and it's zippy! Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

That was pretty quick
When I got nailed early this year it took a full 4 weeks for the dealer-owned body shop to complete it.
