New Re: Progress Report: 3 months to go!
Doubtless the relevant medicos have already rendered some opinions re the relationship between your wife's back problems and.. the necesary pelvic muscles for delivery -- and just what sorts of strains could? might/will interact.

ie Seems a case where a Plan B would want to be sketched out pretty carefully: one of vastly greater competence than, say -

"Hey, I know ... let's start a Land War in Asia! But we'll wing it on what to do Afterwards."

Meanwhile - Luck! on Plan A, y'hear?

Ashton

New Well she's in good hands in that regard.
Her pain specialist and her obstetricians are in the same hospital (this guided the choice of the latter). The pain specialist has said it will be a cesaerian (sp?), the female obs said there's no reason she can't go for a natural birth. The male obs said the other two need to talk about this and he'd like to be a fly-on-the-wall when they do. :-)

He also mentioned the need for A Plan, but that this wasn't something we had to prepare next week. If my wife does spend the last month or so in the maternity ward, then it does make a lot of things easier come birth day.

She's also seeing the pain specialist in the next few weeks.

New Seriously consider trying natural first
C-section might be easier at first, but the recovery can be painful. Also, depending on the situation, if you go Caesarian for the first time, you may have to do it every time (due to risk of rupturing the uterine lining on subsequent deliveries).

My wife had a C-section; the actual surgery went well, but it's taken about 9 months for her cut to fully recover.

You really need to talk to the various doctors a lot to understand why they recommend certain courses, and then figure out what seems best for your wife and you.

New Her pain specialist has been on the money for years.
Whereas she's only known the obstetricians for a few months.

Her back pain is getting worse as the baby grows, so it's looking like the pain specialist was right all along. Just like normal. :-/
