New Re: It Lives - on my MacBook!
Hey Darrell.

Have you tried Boot Camp on the MacBook? I've seen people ask if eCS can be installed using Boot Camp. Any idea if that is possible?

New Not yet.
I have a 60 GB drive and don't space left to divide it up amongst multiple operating systems. Parallels helps with the space as it presents a drive to the guest OS but the "disk image" file is only as big as it needs to be to hold the actual data. eCS thinks it has a 6GB drive, the file is only 2.2GB. XP thinks it has 8GB and its file is 6.5 GB.

I plan to replace it with a larger drive later this year and may try Boot Camp then.

Do you know if there are OS/2 drivers that support 1280x800? Running at 800x600 in a window is cramped, a 1024x768 window cuts off most of the eCenter ("start bar") due to the Mac's menu bar and window frame, and both resolutions look crappy when displayed full screen. I have XP set to 1024x640 for windowed mode and 1280x800 for full screen(parallels automatically changes XP's resolution when switching between windowed and full screen modes).

New If you have the full version of the scitech drivers
then you can do that resolution, as you can just dial up whatever resolution you want.

Don't know if it's worth the money to you or not, though. OTOH, they do have a lot of cool features last time I looked at them (like portrait mode, for example). ISTR that they've got a working implementation of OpenGL (but not with hardware acceleration) included too.

New Re: If you have the full version of the scitech drivers
Sure don't. Looks like it's SNAP now instead of SDD. I don't see any pricing on their site either. Hmm - this under My SciTech looks interesting
SciTech SNAP Graphics PE contains all of the features found in the Enterprise Edition, including advanced acceleration, custom mode support and powerful display control. In fact the only real difference between the commercial product and the non-commercial version is the license. In addition to the license difference the personal edition includes support for a single graphics device, which you specify in your user profile. This can be easily changed at anytime to accommodate upgrades to your hardware or supported operating system. Should you require support for multiple chipsets and or need a solution for non-personal use i.e. an office environment you can easily upgrade "PE" to either the ENT or IES commercial editions.

SciTech SNAP Graphics PE, is provided under the terms of our non-commercial use license, which allows registered users to benefit from the product in a non-commercial environment free of charge.
will have to look into it tonight.

New In February 2005 the full version was $36.95.
That's the last time I bought it (v3.x).

Big advantage of the full version is you can shut down the computer, yank the video card and put in a different one and OS/2 comes up just fine.

New That's slick
$37's not bad to get it to work on the MacBook even though I won't be swapping video cards on it. If that SNAP PE doesn't work out I'll drop them a note.

New They only list a 5-user license for $157.
that's a bit rich. They offer My SciTech PE (Personal Edition) for free use, where they'll generate a driver supporting 1 chipset however it doesn't have an option for VESA VBE 2.0, which is what Parallels presents to the guest OS. I tried generating one anyway on the off chance they would fall back to VESA mode, but they don't.

I've dropped them a note asking if they'll sell a 1 user license or if they'll add VESA as an option for My SciTech PE.

New I don't think they understood
I received a link w/keys for the old, unsupported, SDD drivers for DOS and Windows.

It's been purchased, just awaiting the keys

New Been using SNAP for the last couple of years. Me likey.
New SNAP does 1280x800 !
I'm liking it!

The "dial up" feature doesn't work though, it fails with "unable to add" for anything resolution I attempted. I guess it doesn't like the simulated video card.

New figured out custom resolutions
There's a Custom Resolution settings under Parallels that must be enabled, along with telling Parallels what custom resolutions to allow. Once I did that, SNAP's gamode command worked as expected :)
