New I know it's a bit of a hike...
...But did you try Midway?

New Going online tonight
Hope to find something in the neighborhood.

AA quoted me a seat tomorrow morning and a return trip on Sunday for $1048. I simply cannot afford that tariff.

So which is better: Expedia, Orbitz, or Travelocity?

New Thinking of you and yours...
Did you ask for the family emergency discount? Some airlines still do that; not sure what the limitations are.
When somebody asks you to trade your freedoms for security, it isn't your security they're talking about.
New Call Southwest
When I flew into Midway last summer on 36 hours notice for an interview, the price was $600 round trip.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

New Thanks for the pointers.
I did poke around Southwest, but I found a fairly good deal from Travelocity, $520 roundtrip from O'Hare, with one leg nonstop, with 48hrs notice. (I actually could have done it with 12 hrs notice, but because I fatfingered one of the innumerable forms, I had to start over, and in the time that took, someone stole the $515 fare out from underneath me and I was left with a $1245 fare for that same itinerary. Nonplussed, I started over, and found the one I ended up with. <mumble />)
