when Sharper Image was clearing out last quarter's stuff (about a year ago.)

It's er, 'cool'. (Or 'hot' - natch.)
'Course one could easily cobble up 12 V via gel-cell or the new mondo NiMH AAs per description - but this came with AC wart and car plug. ~$20 instead of 35? 40?

Less labor intensive.. and can't beat $20, if they do this again.
It's also bigger than the DIY one, with red/blue LEDs for mode + ON indication; no temp indicator though. Didn't bother to measure actual current draw, which may be less than the Wart rating:

Wart sez 12V @ 1.5A ~ 18 Watts at whatever conversion efficiency; works soon enough; think I measured <35\ufffd F. after some minutes. I can't imagine running a real "118 Watts" (!!) off the batteries shown. \ufffd-geeks are soo unattuned to Ohm's Law and other complex stuff - well, except here, of course.

8 x 2.5 AH AAs should give 1.5 hours full-bore, and unless you like frozen beer - you would switch off, periodically.

Just another option,
