New Costs

Based on a machine I built for a home user about 2 weeks ago. Shipping costs are included in costs. All except cabinet purchased at "dealer cost", but I seem to remember back a few years ago the whole justification for the Internet was that everyone would be able to buy at below dealer cost, right?

Cabinet & Power$65 Directron (off Internet - my former vendor only does container loads now).
Motherboard$90Asus Socket 754
CPU Semperon 3000+$87

New The reason your table disappears like that..
You laid out your HTML with lots of linebreaks. Those linebreaks wind up being displayed before the HTML.

Either uncheck "Convert Newlines To BR Tags" or else remove the returns from your table definition.

Cheers,
Ben

New Thanks, knew there must be a reason.

New Don't do it for costs, do it for quality
I can go to Fry's and get a PC for under $300. But I wouldn't trust the quality, especially power supply quality.

Building your own (or speccing your own) lets you build a quiet system (using resources such as Silent PC Review), a compact system (e.g. Shuttle), etc -- and also makes it easier to troubleshoot and upgrade later.

New Ok, ok, fixed.
You could tell by the price. If I really needed a new 120-Meg drive I could probably get one, but it'd cost me a whole lot more than that.
