I should also note...
That if we have more than 3 people total, I'll need to get a Big Ole Van rented for the weekend trip...
Please, the sooner we know how many... the better price I can get for the vehicle.
14 Passenger Vans go pretty quick for the 4th of July Weekends.

But.....I dont take my kids to events where they may witness their mother behaving in a decidedly un-motherly fashion. What would you think of your mom if she was drunk and swinging from the chandilier? That's years of therapy I cant pay for.
I sure could use a good scratching, though. Next year. I promise.

- I dont have anyone to watch my kids
There's always duct-tape
- I'm broke
Bill doesn't charge cover
- I have nothing to wear

Now you're making me feel bad
1. But you cant guarantee me staying sober enough to work if I need to.
2. I've tried duct tape. The little buggers can gnaw their way through it.
3. Hotel bill, gas, other unmentionable expenses.
4. I just threw the clothes thing in for drama
5. I dont *need* any of the etc's. I'm stuck with them.
Start priming yourself for next year. I'll be there.

My take on it is he's saying BS in a nice way
You've got a series of excuses along with a very good reason not to go.
But for some reason you repeat the excuses.
It's OK, you don't HAVE to go, and you don't even need a list of reasons.
1 is good enough.
You are on call, and you need to be responsible.
Done.
Everything else can be worked around, but that can't, so there is no further discussion required.
On the otherhand, my wife does that.
She piles on a list of BS excuses why something can't be done, since she feels the real reason is not considered important enough.
By the time I "solve" all the BS ones, I come across the real one.

What do you think this is, a soiree?
What do you think you need to wear? I'll wear shorts and a t-shirt, when I'm not stripped to a bathing suit. You have the ride there and free (ok not very luxurious) accomodations. Accomodating your kids is slightly more tricky, but if you can bring a tent (or get someone else to) then they can come as well.
The only sticker is being on call. We've already offered to make sure that you have a computer with Access available. However there is a legitimate concern that you might not be in good condition if there is a disaster.
Either way it is your call, but most of your excuses are non-issues.

It is all day long. Most people are gone by evening, but some of us don't get the memo until 2 AM or so.

Actually now its turned into an all weekend affair. Arrivals begin Friday, party all day Saturday, remaining guests dribble out during sunday morning/afternoon.
And this year I have special guests for a couple more days which I'm looking forward to.
