New Three Were Told to Leave Bush Town Meeting
Is this for real? [link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A10969-2005Mar29.html|http://www.washingto...69-2005Mar29.html]

I thought the US was heavily activist at the grass roots level. In the UK, it is the statutory right of commoners to bitch at politicians in public. Party conferences are exempt, of course. Surely, US politicans can't be seen to be completely shielded from the common folk? Surely, town halls are open forums? Or am I missing something?
Matthew Greet

But we must kill them. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig, cow after cow, village after village, army after army. And they call me an assassin. What do you call it when the assassins accuse the assassin? They lie. They lie and we must be merciful to those who lie.
- Colonol Kurtz, Apocalypse Now.
New Where were you during the campaign?
This has become WSOP. All W events are nothing but staged pageantry. Real citizens not allowed.

"Whenever you find you are on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect"   --Mark Twain

"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them."   --Albert Einstein

"This is still a dangerous world. It's a world of madmen and uncertainty and potential mental losses."   --George W. Bush
New I'm still missing something
In a country that regards itself as the most democratic in the world, how can anyone (except persistent trouble makers) be thrown out of a town hall without triggering protests? Or do people think the US should really be a dictatorship?

New There's a time and a place for expressing your views.
I don't know where the place is, but the time is "when you're very rich and have a suitable understanding of which politicians will make the most beneficial decisions WRT the bottom line".

Everyone else just isn't in a position to make an informed judgement.

And obviously many do pride themselves on freedom - that's why the newspaper article.

At least not while beer is available!

You do remember his "dictatorship" remark, don't you?

New It's very simple, actually
It's precisely because we know so well that we are the most democratic and free country in the world that we can also be so very sure that anyone who questions events like these must be seriously delusional or have an ugly, anti-american agenda.

New This is the New World?
If that's the reason this is happening, then the one thing I admired about the Americans is gone. Common folk used to be more energised than Europeans but now the US are just sheep. Sheep in a constant state of fear, war fever, religious frenzy, debt and poor medical care. The New World is a failure and the Old World is the bastion of social progress. Get out while you can.

New No, it's not
Lots of other places in the New World.
