Her water broke Tuesday evening. After 22 hours of so-so labor, they decided to use pitocin (to avoid the high incidence of infection at that point). She reacted a LOT more quickly than they expected: less than an hour after the drip started she was pushing him out.Our third child was about two weeks late. We had already made two trips to the hospital, only to be sent back home. On the third visit, my wife absolutely refused to hear anything about going home, so they put her on a pitocin drip. The stuff must be magic, because she went into labor very abruptly and her water broke inundating the midwife (ok, so that's probably an exaggeration but the wife was already miffed about being sent home twice before so she was glad to get back at the midwife). With the first two, my wife had an epidural, and she was quite insistent (i recall the pleas quite vividly) that she needed an epidural but the pitocin kicked in so fast that the baby was born well before the anesthesiologist made it around.
Congratulations on the new edition. And get some sleep! :-)
