I would suspect that there won't be ANY more carry on luggage anymore as one of the precautions. Sidenote: this attack did NOT require passenger planes, and cargo planes have had loose security traditionally. (I'm actually surprised that it didn't use cargo planes).

If I were Dell, Compaq, HP, etc., I would think about a commercial where a wild monkey throws my laptop around (like the Samsonite luggage guy). Then the monkey (or a guy in a suit) sits down, opens the lid, turns on the power and WALAA! it works. BTW, this is going to drive some significant redesign in laptops. Ruggadized laptops will be the order of the day. Drop from 10 meters and they still work! Glen Austin

Also since the purpose of terrorrism is to cause terror, it was more effective.
