New "French" fries
The blue light indicates that a jest was intended.

cordially,
"Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist."
New I knew he was kidding...
...but crediting the French with something created by the Belgians is a cultural no-no. There are lots of nasty Belgian jokes told by the French...these are their version of "polack jokes"
You were born...and so you're free...so Happy Birthday! Laurie Anderson

And don't forget the Python competition a generation ago to come up with a disparaging term for the Belgians. Second runner-up: "The Sprouts." First runner-up: "The Phlegms." Winner: "Goddamn fat stinking Belgian bastards."

cordially,
"Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist."
New Almost had...
...but now chuckle at the memories as they come flooding back.

New Get it right:
"Miserable fat Belgian bastards."

New Re: Get it right:
"Miserable fat Belgian bastards." --Are you quite certain here? I grant that it has been nearly thirty years since I saw the sketch, but the phrasing I cited is the one that lodged, or appeared to lodge, in memory. Of course, the Pythons occasionally varied their bits in recordings, live performances, etc--for our present purposes I think we must needs regard the original television series as canonical--but now I'm mildly curious to know which of us is correct here.

cordially,
"Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist."
New Re: Get it right:
Your search - "goddamn fat stinking belgian bastards" - did not match any documents.

Whereas:

amongst many others from searching for "miserable fat belgian bastards" on Google. ;-)

New Oh, jeez, Google...
(heel of hand thuds several times on right temple)

Passing strange that it didn't occur to me, since I Google as much as the next guy. Could it be that, in contemplating the question, I had cast my mind so thoroughly back to 1974 that online avenues of inquiry did not present themselves as considerations? Could it be that I'm looking for a complicated explanation for a simple brain-fart?

Anyway, I stand amply corrected.

cordially,
"Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist."
New I thought it was
"Bloody Stinking Belgium Bastards!"
