New Shark Fin Soup!
Delicious!!

Shark Fin Soup
New The effort looks incredible
New Actually, it's not . .
. . especially if you have some Chicken Stock on hand. It takes some time, but most of that is unattended.
New I've had real shark fin soup.
In 1989, when I visited Japan, my host family took me to a Chinese restaurant where they served it. I didn't know about the issues with the soup at the time; wouldn't have accepted it if I had known. On the other hand it was very, very tasty soup.

My favorite culinary experience was in a small restaurant outside of Osaka in the middle of some rice fields - it was a layer of rice, then grilled eel, then rice, then grilled eel. I spent literal years trying to find a place that made grilled eel as good, only to find out a decade later that I'd been taken to a place that quite literally was considered the best eel restaurant in Japan.

In hindsight, I think the family I stayed with had a wee bit more money than I thought they did.
Ceterum autem censeo pars Republican esse delendam.
New Oh, eel!
I love it. It is my favorite fake sushi. Oh I have real sushi and I take a chance on the worms, but the eel is cooked and has a bit of plum sauce and is just wonderful. Love that eel.
New with you on the eel, koreans do a tasty smoked version

New Tyops
3. Drain "Shark Fin". [s]pread out [capital S]

Remove hard attachment points [from?] the Black Fungus

(And on the shark fin page)

and Rhode Island ,if you [misplaced comma]

Scientific investigation has been able to confirmed none of these

Also, shark, being a top predator, Mercury concentration is also an issue

I've never seen water chestnut starch. So it sounds like it takes half the amount for equal thickening to corn starch?

New Thanks, will fix.
Yes, in my testing Water Chestnut Starch is a lot more powerful than Corn Starch. It doesn't take freezing any better than Corn Starch though. Must be careful what you get is "Starch" not "Flour". Starch will have Chinese lettering, Flour is for Indian fasting recipes.
New If I can find that, I want to try an egg drop soup with it
I'll also do the clarified chicken broth. Should taste the same, but the presentation will be very different.

New Re: Shark Fin Soup!
My next project on this subject is to develop a vegetarian shark fin soup. It probably won't be Celiac safe though, as I'll probably be using Wheat Gluten to replace the chicken, though some form of Tofu Skin might work. I'll have to try them both.
New well I guess I can get my own

New Or, they can get you.
New On the ingredient page:
"The Chinese hold that Shark Fin improves dong endurance, prevents cancer and..."

Yeah, of course. I mean, is there any weird ingredient of which the Chinese don't claim it improves dong endurance?
