zIWT++ (Well, zIWT--++--++--++, to be precise.)
Been unemployed for most of this year, but signed a six-month contract with a recruitment agency / "bodyshop"(*) yesterday; going to do (AFAICT as yet) the same old DW/BI/ETL stuff as before, this time in SAS, for a client in the *ns*r*nc* business until the end of February.
Brief historical recap of work during my absence from here: Left Larry's bunch for ZenPark at the end of '05; ZP got swallowed by Affecto in '06/'07, which dumped me in '10. Started at Avarea in '11, but left early this year.
No fun, this being unemployed thingy.
(*): Contrary to common prejudice, they seem to be very nice people.

I hear you...
I was "retired" in 2009, about the time my legs quit working. Got a synovial cyst removed from my spinal cord in 2011 and my legs work again. I'm doing contract work because, while my wife and I were frugal and put all our discretionary funds in 401Ks, the bankers robbed us blind. It's ok; they had the votes. No harm, no foul except that I have to work until I die or else my dogs starve.
Still, contract work can be fun. The gig I'm at now is the first place in a couple decades where I need an oscilloscope and schematics to debug software. I rather enjoy that. It will be going away in a few months, but it's fun for the moment.
Enjoy today! Tomorrow will probably be worse, so today's the best you got!

Only in a closed system. ;-)
Things do get better, in fits and starts.
You've been through a lot, and have a right to be angry and discouraged. But don't let it get you down. Keep fighting the good fight.

Guess we're all supposed to settle-for-less.. the $$folk say

But until We-All find a way to recapture a %large of Their extorted net-worths.. ..Hah! ...
Nice to hear that Finnish body-shops are--as I would have expected--somewhat less-Vulture in their Capitalismo.
(It's gotta be OK, so long as the daily drill doesn't rot yer brain permanently, no?)

Thanks, guys!
Start got postponed from the third to the ninth, but now I've done most of the first week... Should have most software installed and accesses granted soon, so I can start getting something done! :-)
Thanks for all the well-wishes.
