Gah.
I've seen Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pros with 2GB memory and 120GB drives going for as low as $300.
That's exactly what I have. And no, I didn't buy it for $300.

I remember the first time I saw 500M hard drive
I thought, "Wow, that would be like having a server on your desk."

Hey, I can play this game
My truly insanely expensive P100, with a whole 32MB RAM. The RAM alone cost me 2400 bucks... but it was worth it; ran some real 32 bit systems with flash and style on that machine...

I could too, though I'm not sure I really want to.
Although I didn't pay for it, I remember my first computer was normally retailing at AU$500 but was on special for Christmas at $300. It had just 16k of RAM, no mass storage and I had to use my own TV!
I do remember paying $1600 for 16Mb of RAM quite some years later, though. It was for a 386SX PC.

Mine was $5K
It was the 1st computer I ever bought for myself.
It took about a month of extra consulting to pay it off.
