New That's an excellent rule.
Last year, replaced leaky shower fixtures for my brother who is totally mechanically inept. Took a whole day and 4 trips to Lowe's and/or Home Depot for parts or special tools.

Had to turn off water for the whole house to do it too. That would not be a good situation overnight.

New For jobs that might go too long . . .
. . I always make sure I have pipe caps so if I need to I can just cap off a pipe and turn the water back on.
