Out, Out, brief candle

120 US war veteran suicides a week
[...]
"Not everyone comes home from the war wounded, but the bottom line is nobody comes home unchanged,'' Paul Rieckhoff, a former Marine and founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans for America said on CBS."
This is so very sad, if for no other reason than the lost potential in these young lives.

I've always felt that there should be post-tour boot camp
If you have to prep to go to war, then you need to prep to assume your place when you get back. Step up, step down. Unfortunately, the government only cares about creating soldiers, but not citizens.
I will keep praying.

Ah - a whole lot of things become much more clear!
Mff Cwitter points out a sad truth: Unfortunately, the government only cares about creating soldiers, but not citizens. So that's what that "pledge of allegiance" and all that shit in Yank schools is all about! Yup, looking at it that way, it finally makes sense. Thanks, Amy!

Mff?
Pedantic weirdos who over-analyze everything are asking.

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin? - Mark Renton, Trainspotting.

Not at all surprising
Killing is not an easy business to be in. And to make things worse, it is only acceptable in a specific milieu. Remove yourself from the milieu, how do you reconcile your actions with your morality?
