Which is why I said "near sentient"
The LRPD was barely in the ballpark.
Yours doesn't break down until several levels into the details, where it turns out Choi is not cabbage but [link|http://www.clovegarden.com/ingred/cb_green.html#asia|turnip greens].
The only one of the many chois that is a cabbage is Chinese broccoli. I guess that was necessary to balance out the fact that Italian broccoli (Rapini) is actually a turnip.

heres the skinny
according to my friend, he has never personally heard of it. To him it sounds like a locally named derivative of taikondo. Doesnt mean it isnt good. He states its what the kid wants out of it, is the benefit of learning. He teaches competatively and non compete classes. It is a disabling strike method of unarmed combat involving a lot of kicks and hand strikes.
If your son has a mind set that wants to learn a martial arts system it may be fine. If he wants to compete in tournements ala chuck norris have him attend a school that has an olympic entry such as judo taikondo karate. If he wants to fight have him learn muy tai or iron hand gung fu. If he wants to learn body mind co-ordination tai che is best for that.
Good luck. thanx, bill

Thanks...
It was developed in the 70s by a 9th level grand master Tai Kwon Do instructor, who based it on biomechanical principles instead of ki and mysticism. The strikes are non-stressing, as opposed to the sharp snaps of Tai Kwon Do. They emphasize self-defense and fitness, which is good, but no sparring, which makes me wonder how the hell you can expect to know how to use it in an actual throw-down.

actually martial arts isnt that usefull in a street fight
unless you spar free style. It will help you learn that getting hit wont kill you so you can overcome that fear and hit back. If you dont have the Ki and Mysticism you have just another form of calisthenics, not necessarily bad. thanx, bill

Re: actually martial arts isnt that usefull in a street figh
As I said, it uses biomechanical principles, which are pretty much ki without the trappings and with a scientific explanation.
Most of the sparring I've seen in classes (like my son's karate class) is freestyle. I agree that it's pretty much useless if it's scripted.

What does your friend think of these:
Kuk Sool Won and Wing Chun
I'm interesting in starting something, not sure what yet. I like the knee, shin, and elbow strike stuff in Muay Thai, the close up style of Wing Chun, and the weapons/grappling additions in Kuk Sool. :-P

having met you I think you would do well with poison hand gung fu. Lots of good joint exercises and extremely effective. thanx, bill
