Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Drag racing is done.
[link|http://www.wboc.com/Global/story.asp?S=6669476&nav=MXEFM7m7|Charity doesn't have enough safe guards] while Drag cars burnout.

I just happen to be watching MSNBC and the Anchor was asking about "At Drag races are people this exposed? Do they not have any safeguards?"

This was a Charity event had fences only so far. Even then they were only "railings" like they have on highways, only meant to "help" keep cars from going down a culvert or some other deep pit.

I guess John Force will have to find some other way to make money. Anyway, gas is REALLY expensive now. All this excess... sheesh.

New WTF were they thinking?
Burnouts along a parade route? Or was the crowd along the sides of the track? Can't tell from the story. Either way, you don't light 'em up with nothing but a guardrail between you and people.

Kip Hawley is still an idiot.

New ABC TV showed the tape. MSNBC has it on line.
Of course, they don't show much of it, but it looks like the driver was doing something very stupid.

Cheers,
Scott.
New 10+ cars did burnouts for the crowd.
Not just Drag cars, and have been for 18 years.

Whodathunkit?

Well, for one the NHRA and the IHRA (and other racing associations or race governing bodies). They have a set-back policy and require concrete barriers and additional guardrails with 6-8ft fencing at the setback.

It is amazing that *NOBODY* thought about this given the HORRIFIC accidents and fire and blow-ups the Drag Racing has seen _DURING_ burnouts.

New This should be handled like 911.
We should ban all cars from all roads until we can make them all safe for the public. (Which means, of course, no automobiles will ever be used again).

It would seem, therefore, that the three human impulses embodied in religion are fear, conceit, and hatred. The purpose of religion, one might say, is to give an air of respectibility to these passions. -- Bertrand Russell
New Not a solution.
Cars came along in time to keep the streets from filling up with horse shit. Which they were doing.
Population seems to be the problem. The US had the room for all those people to spread out. In doing so, people don't like to live in high concentrations here. Therefore suburban sprawl and related problems (read cars, guns, displaced wildlife, higher costs, no time to spend with the kids because of the higher costs... and so it goes.)
Our society was too decentralized when cars were becoming popular. It will take very drastic steps to fix it. On the other paw, if we off 5 out of the 6 billion humans on the planet, it will probably make the planet last longer... I'm not feeling altruistic enough to volunteer myself. How 'bout you? :)
New I'll volunteer
To do the offing... I have a list already started... :-)

New Got a little list and they'll never be missed... :)
New By whom? ;-)
