I'm considering getting my wife a digital camera for Christmas. She needs something that's small, easy to use, and nearly foolproof.
The [link|http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf30/|Fujifilm F30] sounds like a great camera for low light situations, but apparently has trouble in Automatic mode in outdoors, high-contrast situations. It also uses xD memory cards that many users don't like.
It's [link|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16830122063|$196] at Newegg after a $50 mail-in rebate.
The [link|http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd700is/|Canon SD700 IS] uses SD memory cards, has an image stabilizer, and seems to give all-around better shots on average, but isn't as good at ISO settings above 200 or 400 or so. It seems to be much better at outdoor shots than the Fujifilm, in its Automatic mode. The Canon seems to be more easily blemished than the Fuji from normal handling.
It's [link|http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=8612&A=details&Q=&sku=425431&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation|$290 at B&H].
Which would you choose and why?
Thanks.
Cheers,
Scott.
(Who is leaning toward the Canon, but the $90+ savings on the Fuji is attempting.)
