I'm a daddy.
My wife had a caesarean section this morning to deliver our baby boy. 3.88kg or 8lb 8oz for those not metric yet. Probably be called Benjamin but we haven't picked a middle name yet.
More details later as I haven't seen him yet (long story).

But my wife and I haven't really discussed it. I guess we will today.

Got his web nick, though.. son-of-static just has to be called, Signal? (or.. dynamic! ;-)
All the best to tyke + mater - I hope you demanded Officers Grade stitches!

PS Small story re Brit. tradition of bestowing four names == 3 inits; this all.. quite prior to the plethora of biz-TLAs we now know and despise:
One of the first members of the VOC (Vincent Owner's Club), best writer/reporter of the lot - who also wrote for other motorcycle pubs for many years - was named R.A.B. Cook. He too had a son. Unclear whether lobbying of the membership carried any weight, but one Robert Edward Vincent Cook was eventually christened.. ;^>

On the nick ...
"Signal" is good, but for the next several months I suspect "noise" will be more appropriate.

Update #1.
Okay, some more details.
My son's name is Nicholas Hamish. He was born at about 7:40am yesterday (17th October). He weighed in at 3.88kh/8lb8oz as I've already posted, and 54cm/21in long. So he's large, but not too big, and long. He's got black hair already and my nose.
Delivery was cesaerean section. I wasn't there because my wife and her family decided I wasn't going to be there for my son, so they didn't call me. The epidural didn't work, I'm told, which I got the impression from the nursing staff that this was not uncommon, but Rachael's mother thought was quite rare.
I've been into see little Nicholas and I got fantastic support from my sister and my brother and his family and then from my parents, since they got back from a trip yesterday afternoon.

That I wasn't going to be there?
Or that epidurals failing was not uncommon? As for the latter, I have no idea. AFAIK, a failing epidural is usually replaced by a general anaesthetic, which would be relatively routine.
As for the former, well, my wife and I are in disagreement about the state of the world at the moment, if you get my drift.

That was a ****ing bitchy thing to do.
And when she comes to her senses, you can tell her she owes you fucking big-time for that.
As for her family, tell them (right away), if they *ever* pull any shit like that again, you won't have *anything* to do with them ever again, and you'll do your level best to ensure that they get to see as little as possible of *your* son, too.
How the fuck DARE they?!?

She feels I owe her anyway.
I pretty upset for quite a while when I first heard.
I've been frustrating her mother for a little while now because she wants to lay into me about how I've treated her daughter, but I've stopped standing there taking it and answering back just encourages her. I've hung up on her at least once, and I've walked out of rooms several times. A few times I've informed her that her memory of events is faulty and left it at that. She has resisting accepting that I will not discuss past events with her whilst she is being combatative and certainly about things I can't change.
So I'm already having as little to do with as possible. And made it clear that it's her mother who is inflaming things.

I used to get on okay with her.
But we made the mistake of picking a place within an easy drive of her parents. Bad move. If we'd started a lot further away, then we'd have had to rely on them less and we would have had to solve things without our parents. Which isn't really solving things. So issues that a couple should normally take a few years to sort out stayed unsorted out until she couldn't take it anymore. Her mother is, not surprisingly, siding with her daughter over things.

Belated Congratulations!
I've been, well, very absent from a lot of online places lately, sorry. A lot of unexpected &/or stressful things happened at once so I've been dealing with all of that instead of being active online.
But I wanted to congratulate you on your new son, and also tell you about the rest of it, (the family equation), that I completely get how family works and what you are going through, and I have nothing but empathy for you. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers and thoughts and hopefully everything will work out for the best.
