Soon (--iwethey())++
Offer for new position that I've been wrangling for came in today. Working with old friends who appreciate me, closer to home, for more $$ and more upward mobility possibilities.
Accepted 10 minutes ago, will give notice on Monday morning.
Of course, Monday is the day training for the new ERP system starts. Something tells me I won't be in that class. I wonder if they will choose to hang on to me for a couple of weeks, documenting, knowledge sharing, or fire me in fury.
Interesting time ahead.

Enjoy!
I did something like that as a contractor once. Gave them a two week notice even though the contract I was working under was expiring just before the end date. They had me signing such contracts every few months for two and half years!
Anyway, they may go bonkers when they realize they don't hold all cards! :)

They knew they didn't hold the cards already
That is why they systematically stripped all responsibility from me, because I was not part of the "in" crowd and was considered a flight risk.
But their actions triggered the flight, since they crippled my productivity and made sure I was directed by an incompetent ex-programmer.
I was perfectly willing to give it my all, and they essentially spit in my face.
So it was a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Small company, few hundred employees, same type that I am leaving. No names on the web - I'll email to you.

didnt mean company...meant location
sounds like you are now back in jersey...less than half the old commute. Very cool.
If you had gone further south...we could end up hookin for lunch .. even now its much less than the hour it would take me to get to J-town.

Hehe
I made a mistake in an email to the new HR person, which was essentially telling her she made a mistake. I caught it on review the next day. I sent a followup:
Hi {{HR PERSON}}.
> Note: The start date cannot be correct, it says Monday, October 2, but > October 2 is a Sunday.
Ahh, my first silly mistake . I was looking at a 2005 calendar. Upon review I see you are right, of course.

And you skills connections and cunning
are what made your last job go so smoothly there at the end?
Seems to me you had a bit of bad luck forcing your move.

In the end the best liar wins
At least for the short term. And if you can bury the bodies, you can last a very long time. My exit interview is on Friday. My current boss wants me to burn bridges - it'll help him since it is his boss that is causing the pain.
But I'm not going to. I might end up working for this guy sometime down the line, and I sure don't want his last memory of me to be me throwing grenades at him.

Final day is tomorrow
So I was having lunch with a bunch of people, in my "honor". It's the Barry farewell tour, 2 weeks of free lunches.
My PFY was brooding in the corner, end of the table.
So the sysadmin says: Whatcha doing the final days, screwing around? Me: Nope - I actually have a project that I am trying to finish before I leave. Sysadmin: Nah, really? I bet you slap some shit together and hand it off 1/2 complete.
My PFY erupts, and YELLS: Don't tell him that. Don't distract him. If he doesn't do it, I'm FUCKED!
Totally out of character for him. The whole table realizes that while the rest of us have been having a good time, he's been sinking into a depression. Twitch. Twitch.

I know that song, but for a different reason.
Guy here retires, did some halfway decent stuff, but not "great" stuff. Duct tape 'n baling wire the whole way 'round. No documentation, and he'd spend half his day off at another site sitting around eating snacks with people instead of getting shit done.
Guess who inherited this and has to untangle it? Oh, and said individual didn't trust "newfangled" technology like DNS, liked to use static IP addresses for everything.
