New Interesting rant
The jihadists we're afraid of are, so far as we know, young Muslim men from the Middle East, not old grandmas named Evelyn and Gladys married to soybean farmers, and not even old white guys like me, but nonetheless they pat us down

I thought the liberal masses frowned upon things like racial profiling.

New There is more in there.
I just thought that was interesting. Seemed to be supportive of the "no security is good enough so why are you looking in my bag?" mentality. A bit different than what I'm used to seeing from Salon.

New s/liberal masses/actual security experts/
As opposed to the DHS, for example.

All profiling does is say to the terrorists "Smart terrorists! Don't look like $profile or the plane won't get bombed, have a nice day!".

Oh, and it victimises the fuck out of otherwise innocent people and can, presumably, add grist to their getting-radicalised mill.

Once again, for the benefit of those who weren't listening the first time around - the 11th of September terrorists were in the USA on valid, genuine ID and would have passed muster had they been "profiled".

The 7th of July bombers were all born in the UK and, even in a post WTC world were not detected.

Profiling is stupid.
