Welcome to IWETHEY!

New National Turn Off the TV Week starts today.
My kids are in a panic and already negotiating.
"Mom, you at least have to watch the Weather Channel. What if there is a tornado?"
"Does this include video games?"
"What about DVDs? Can we at least watch a movie?"

I have to do some fancy talking tonight when I turn on Desperate Housewives. Maybe they'll be asleep by then.

New I can not participate.
My TV broke down in 1958. Some friends left one here years ago but in this narrow valley with no antenna it gets only snow so it's always off.

New I've heard all of those already.
Kids are negotiating here as well. Our plan includes taking a walk around the block -- or down to the park -- nightly after dinner. We might supplement that with a walk to the local Dairy Queen on Friday if they're good about the "no TV" thing.

New during the playoffs? Are you mad?
I only watch sports, Kids should be outside from dawn until dusk unless feeding anyway this time of year. Not that mine do :-)
thanx,

New Do as I say, not as I do. :-P
I have come to believe that idealism without discipline is a quick road to disaster, while discipline without idealism is pointless. -- Aaron Ward (my brother)
New TV has been off for almost 5 years...
we pulled the plug on it September 1st 2001. We relented for 3 months about 2 years ago. That just confirmed to us that we made the right decision. We have a collection of video tapes and DVDs that we watch and we rent videos a couple of times a month. Our kids don't feel hard done by at all.

New That just made me realize...
I haven't turned on my TV but once since I moved. And that was to make sure I had hooked up the DVD correctly. It's surprising to me how huge the lack of missing it is.

Impeach Bush. Impeach Cheney. Do it now.
New No TV for us anyway.
We occasionally watch a movie, or Battlestar Galactica. The kids never watch TV except for movies or cartoons at the grandparents' house.

I have a PVR now, and I'm filling up the hard drive with a backlog of recorded shows (Doctor Who and the Daily Show) that I'll probably never watch.
