so they have a Siemens employee discount. I can get their latest off the shelf box, 128mg ram winXP goodies up the wazoo for 450USD. Since what happened to one of ours I say fsckem. But they are tryin g to move inventory at any cost. thanx, bill
I got Tiger Direct (your buddies in Miami) catalog yesterday. They are trying to move Gateway inventory. $599.99 for AMD 1 GHz, 128 MB memory, 20 GB drive, DVD-ROM, 56K modem, Windows ME. No monitor.
Tax and shipping and handling extra. The S&H is not minor.
Yep, they are all desperate.
Alex This is my sig. There's another almost like it, but this one is mine.
Dell's trying to put the Hurt on Compaq, Gateway and others. Dell's prices are pretty good, but I also don't want to support that vendor.
What I can't quite understand is how Dell can undercut the others so much on P4 systems. The only thing I can figure is that 1) they get bigger discounts from Intel because they don't use AMD on their desktops, and 2) they're figuring the other vendors will crumble before they do. Gateway's trying to fight back (claiming they'll beat other vendors prices), but they're much weaker in this fight than Dell.
I've been very tempted to shell out $1300 for Compaq's Presairo 7110US (1.33 GHz Athlon/256 MB DDR/60 GB/16x DVD/8x4x32 CD-RW/NIC/modem/Firewire/64 MB nVidia with TV-out/SB-128/etc.) at BestBuy or MicroCenter, but will resist a bit.
