Don't forget this news story either
[link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/fiwetheyfrm117.showMessage?topicID=572.topic|http://pub13.ezboar...ID=572.topic]
Dell is also spending millions to buy stock for their Employee Stock Purchase Plan because they bet one way in the options market, and the market did a 180 on them.
By the way, how do you make a proper link here in ZIWETHEY?

Try this:
[link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/fiwetheyfrm117.showMessage?topicID=572.topic|[link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/fiwetheyfrm117.showMessage?topicID=572.topic|http://pub13.ezboar...ID=572.topic]]
Which is done by doing this:
<a href="[link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/fiwetheyfrm117.showMessage?topicID=572.topic"|http://pub13.ezboar...D=572.topic"]>[link|http://pub13.ezboard.com/fiwetheyfrm117.showMessage?topicID=572.topic|http://pub13.ezboar...ID=572.topic]</a>

Not sure why they did this?
See "The Hudsucker Proxy" movie to see why companies try to do crazy stuff. Sometimes they can pull it off, sometimes they cannot.
Also Dell could be suffering from a "Wang Syndrome" also known as "Honey, I shrunk the company". :) Remember Wang and how large the company used to be? Ever wonder how they got so small?

All I know is - either your sig or another item
causes your posts to need L--R shifting, a lot.
I prefer shiftless prose.

What browser?
It seems that IE 5.5 and Mozilla 0.9.2 for Win32 display my posts correctly at any size. I'll remove the HTML table, but it is standard HTML as far as I know.

Re: desperate
I got Tiger Direct (your buddies in Miami) catalog yesterday. They are trying to move Gateway inventory. $599.99 for AMD 1 GHz, 128 MB memory, 20 GB drive, DVD-ROM, 56K modem, Windows ME. No monitor.
Tax and shipping and handling extra. The S&H is not minor.
Yep, they are all desperate.
Alex
This is my sig. There's another almost like it, but this one is mine.

Indeed.
Dell's trying to put the Hurt on Compaq, Gateway and others. Dell's prices are pretty good, but I also don't want to support that vendor.
What I can't quite understand is how Dell can undercut the others so much on P4 systems. The only thing I can figure is that 1) they get bigger discounts from Intel because they don't use AMD on their desktops, and 2) they're figuring the other vendors will crumble before they do. Gateway's trying to fight back (claiming they'll beat other vendors prices), but they're much weaker in this fight than Dell.
I've been very tempted to shell out $1300 for Compaq's Presairo 7110US (1.33 GHz Athlon/256 MB DDR/60 GB/16x DVD/8x4x32 CD-RW/NIC/modem/Firewire/64 MB nVidia with TV-out/SB-128/etc.) at BestBuy or MicroCenter, but will resist a bit.
Cheers, Scott.
