New Planet of the Apes
I'd like to hear a review on this one. Apparently this "remake" is more true to the Novel than the first movie was. No time travel to the future, it is a planet (not Earth) that has both talking humans and talking apes on it. The Apes seem to outnumber the humans, and then a guy crash-lands on the planet from a nearby space station and the story takes off.

From the previews I've seen, it looks like they made the people playing the Apes look more like Apes than humans in rubber masks. This is most likely due to the computer animation and new make-up technologies. Also having a bigger budget helps as well. Ah yes, the 1960's movies and TV shows that got produced on a budget and computer animation costed a lot or didn't exist like it does now. Every decade they made an advance in special effects, the real breaker for the 1970's was "Star Wars", it set the pace for the rest of them.

When I get back from vacation, I hope to see this movie. I hope that it is worth the $8USD to see it.

New Hey hey, we're the Monkees!
I saw it friday. It was pretty good, four stars out of five. Good Special Effects, some good action scenes, and some funny lines. Some of the acting may have been better, but this was a good start. I hope they make another one.

Unlike the original movie, this one stays close to the novel. It is not Earth that the guy first lands on, it is another planet. How did the Apes get so evolved? I'll leave the movie to explain that. Also a shock ending, but not like the original.

Not all of the Apes are against the humans, Ari (if I got her name right) is a Chimp that seems to be a human rights activist. Thade, is of course the villian and is out to capture Leo, the human from space that landed on the planet. The humans on this planet talk, but are slaves of the Apes and kept as pets or killed. It seems the humans of this planet did not have invention beyond that of the caveman or broze age and the Apes took over.

New Alternate opinion
It sucked. It sucked badly. It was horrible. I STRONGLY disliked it.

In fact, it has caused me to make a new rule:

Tim Burton Can't Do Sci-Fi. I mean, look at Mars Attacks! (Or don't - it will save your sanity.) His other stuff is really good. But any time he ventures into science fiction, It Just Sucks.

The one good thing about the film was the costuming. Really good looking. Everything else (Mark Whalburg looks dazed 'n confused, plot was somewhat lacking in direction, heavy-handed social commentary, jokes that fell flat on their face) just sucked.

Errrrrr.....

I *liked* Mars Attacks.

But it wasn't sci-fi... it was a spoof *of* sci-fi.

And it was a hilarious spoof at that. :)

And the ending... was just too hilarious.

New Different strokes...
Okay, I have to admit that the martians were hilarious. To me, that was about it - the rest of the film just didn't do it for me. Other than those two, though, I haven't seen a Tim Burton film that didn't appeal to me. Hell, even Sleepy Hollow, which a lot of people didn't like locally, was a great deal of fun for me.
New Mars Attacks
It was supposed to be funny Sci-Fi as in a spoof based on some old Sci-Fi Bubblegum cards from the 1950's IIRC.

Sleepy Hollow had its momments, and was a weird and scary movie.

Planet Of The Apes could have been better, I admit that. But I really did enjoy it despite some of the acting that could have been better and the overuse of special effects tried to make up for the bad acting.
