New Working as intended?

C.3. Element Minimization and Empty Element Content
Given an empty instance of an element whose content model is not EMPTY (for example, an empty title or paragraph) do not use the minimized form (e.g. use <p></p> and not <p />).

New Sounds semi-reasonable
I notice that doing that with a font tag:
   <font style='color:blue' />
leaves a dangling reference in both IE and FireFox (that is, all subsequent text will be in blue. I'm assuming that IE considers that the script tag is unclosed and the remaining text is considered to be script.

Of course, that leaves two questions. First, if it considered the text that follows to be part of the opened script tag, why then did it not emit javascript error warnings? And why do the various validators (Todd's included) not issue a warning about the non-well formedness?

Oh well, at least you've clued me in on the source of the behavior. :-)
New I'll look into generating a better error
as soon as my world stops spinning.
